TAB Membership

It is 2010 and, unless you are paid ahead, your TAB membership will expire at the end of January. If you are not sure if your membership is going to expire call Ron Toneff at 419-517-4393 or drop him a line at pdlfast@bex.net. Dues are still only $12.00 ($18.00 for families) and you can download an application here. Send the completed application, along with you check, to Ron Toneff, 4029 Newcastle Dr. Sylvania, OH 43560. There are no paid positions in TAB. Volunteers are what keep the club alive. A transfusion of new blood brings new life to an organization. If you have never volunteered before, give it a try. The benefits go far beyond a simple club membership.

TAB Incorporated

At the fall meeting on Nov. 10, 2009, TAB voted to incorporate as a non-profit organization. This will insure that TAB can continue holding bike rides and other activities with less concern about liability for its officers and ride leaders.

The Code of Regulations was adopted on January 23, 2010. You may review the proposed Code here. If you have any questions about incorporating, feel free to contact Debbie Tassie at dtassie@tassielaw.com.

New Bike Safety Law Passed by Toledo City Council

Toledo City Ordinance 575-09 was APPROVED by the City Council, amending Section 331.03 of the Toledo Municipal Code to establish a safe passing distance between a motor vehicle and a bicycle (drivers must keep three feet distance from cyclist). The ordinance now goes to the Mayor for signature. For more info click here.

Update: The ordinance was signed by the Mayor and became effective January 1, 2010.

Note from Toledo Metroparks

Around June I received several complaints from members of your club regarding the condition of the pavement in Oak Openings. At that time I responded to the concerns by conveying that the main road way was scheduled to be re-paved by late summer. What I did not convey was that this project was submitted as part of a larger bundle of projects for state funding. Metroparks is still waiting for final approval, and the paving season is quickly drawing to an end. As such it appears this project will not happen now until next spring.

In the meantime maintenance crews have been doing some patch work and slurry coating in the park and on the Wabash Trail to provide the best possible solution, short term. I wanted to update your group as I know you are avid users and supporters of our park system. Please share this message with everyone. Please do not hesitate to respond for further details or questions.

Sincerely,

Dave Zenk

A New Local Biking Site For Area Riders: www.biketoledo.net

The local bicycling site, BikeToledo.net is a new Web site offering area bikers a new set of resources to bring to their favorite outdoor pastime. The site is strong in specific how-to information, with additional links to biking experts everywhere. Although the site is not commercial and no products are sold on-line, a lot of attention is paid to helping new and intermediate riders choose their gear and equipment carefully by teaching them what to look for. Check it out!
